The
Triple Crown Race
The
University of London Cross Country Championships, The United Hospitals Cross
Country Championships (‘The Bannister Cup’) and of course London Colleges
League Round 4
Adventures in the land of mud…
Thanks
to everyone that raced in or organized race 4 of the season. There was some
serious mud out there, proper cross country conditions to suit the mud monkeys
but a shorter race to keep the track stars interested. The severe camber on
the steep uphill around the back of the course led to some slips and trips and the sharp downhill section just before the finish area provided further
opportunities to get well acquainted with the Ally Pally clay.
Women’s LCL Race
Emily
Hosker-Thornhill of St Mary’s won the race in 17:44 for her third victory of
the season from four races. She was followed home by Melissa Courtney of Brunel
in 18:07 and Sarah Astin of St Mary’s.
The
rest of the top ten were; Gemma Astin (St Mary’s), Armelle Folkes (King’s),
Maria Blocher (King’s), Abi Schofield (Bedford), Meg Kobza (UCL), Katie Allen
(Brunel) and Shannon Colman (King’s).
LCL Team Standings after round 4
St
Mary’s had three women (Hosker-Thornhill, Astin and Astin) in the top four
places and now have more than a hundred point lead.
King’s
brought along another new speedster in Armelle Folkes who brought out yet
another superb performance from Maria Blocher: they took places five, six and
ten (Folkes, Blocher, Colman).
UCLs
scorers were all finished within the top 14 places with a close 5 second margin
between Ella Fuller and Emily Bliss (Kobza, Fuller, Bliss).
Brunel
were all in within the top 20 with another storming run from Melissa Courtney
(Courtney, Allen, Wallace). Reading were all finished within the top 25 (Burroughs,
Pecoraro, Madry).
