A message from Jonny Laybourn:
Welcome to the London Colleges League for 2013/14. If you're a returning student, welcome back and many thanks for deciding to compete again. You make the League. If you're new to the LCL, welcome not only to London, but also to our fortnightly slices of fun, our challenging chases where many a long-lasting friendship has been made.
Information for this year's League is being hosted from this blog for the time being. Our previous website was hosted on the University of London Union's (ULU) Athletics page. For reasons best known to themselves, ULU are forever seeing fit to update their website, and our previous League page was unfortunately deleted. We hope that our permanent site can be restored shortly.
The first race of this year's League, as per tradition, will take place on Parliament Hill Fields, beginning at 15:15 on 16 October 2013. The start is very close to Gospel Oak and Hampstead Heath stations on the London Overground, and a 15 minute walk from Kentish Town and Belsize Park stations, both on the Northern line. Buses 24, 46, 168, 214, C2 and C11 pass along the southern perimeter roads. There are male and female changing facilities.
The course (see map attached) will consist of a 2.5 mile (4km) lap, one of which is completed for the women's race, and two in the men's. You will receive a disc with your placing at the finish which should be passed to your team captain, who will then return discs and completed declaration forms to me. Please pass your disc to your captain, as they are expensive to replace.
If you're reading this, it's likely that you've already decided to take part in the League, which is great. If you're undecided for any reason, be aware that the League is exactly what you make it. It can either be an earnest battle of national standard athletes, a 'chase-your-mates' dash through the park, or simply a method of keeping fit and relaxed in beautiful landscapes throughout your studies. The League is for absolutely everyone for those that run one mile per week to those that run one hundred.
See you on 16 October to put this year's fun in motion.
Cheers. Can't wait to get this year's campaign rumbling!
