LCL Race 2: Richmond Park

Round 2 of 6: Richmond Park

Thanks to everyone that ran in or organised race 2 of the season!

Ladies race

There was a familiarity to the top 3: Emily Hosker-Thornhill of St Mary's won the race in 15:43, establishing a 100% win record at LCLs this season. Emily Moss of Royal Holloway was second in 16:02 and Gemma Astin of St Mary's was third in 16:36.

The top 10 then ran: Sarah Astin (St Mary's), Anne Whitfield (Brunel), Isabel Brinsden (Holoway), Abi Scholfield (Bedford), Maria Blocher (King's), Anna Rust (Bedford), Meg Kibza (UCL).

UL Individual results

First lady over the line from a UL College was Emil Moss of Royal Holloway in 2nd. The rest of the top five from UL college runners were Isabel Brinsden (Royal Holloway), Maria Blocher (King's), Meg Kobza (UCL), and Ella Fuller (UCL).

The top Imperial runner was Sophie Kirk in 19th yet again, although this time far more closely followed by her teammates Josie Bowler and Imogen Keane in 20th and 21st respectively. They're catching you up Sophie!

Ladies team results: Rumble in the Richmond Jungle!

St Mary's maintain their top spot with 586 points.

Highlight of the meet is the thriller of a contest between UCL and King's for top spot on the UL ladies team competition. One solitary point separated these two households (both alike in dignity) after the first race on Hampstead Heath and the sequel did not disappoint. From this ancient grudge breaks a new mutiny as the entirety of both UCL and King's first team runners were separated by a total of only 9 seconds at the finish!

Maria Blocher (King's) had a storming run to finish 8th in 17:36, but only 4 seconds behind was Meg Kobza of UCL, followed by her teammates Ella Fuller (17:44) and Emily Bliss (17:45), who finished with exactly the same time as Laura Oransfield of King's, a mere 2 seconds later Shannon Colman finished in 15th place, completing the King's first team.

King's and UCL are still only separated by a single point, but in a reversal to the result on the Heath, UCL are now ahead 521 points to 520.

The Ladies team contest now reads:

1   St Mary's 586
2 University College London 521
3 King's College London 520
4 Brunel University 485
5 Imperial College London 479
6 King's II 463
7 University of Reading 458
8 Royal Holloway 450
9 UCL II 426
10 King's III 395

Mens Race

Just like at the Heath St Mary's had a strong showing with Jason Pricket winning in 28:36. He was followed home by teammate Luca Russo in 28:51 but John Bird of Brunel broke into the top 3, finishing in 28:57. Joe Morwood of St Georges and Nathaniel Tamaillon of LSE of the UL colleges had very strong runs.

LCL Race 1: Parliament Hill

London Colleges League

Round 1 of 6 Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath

Thanks to everyone that came along to the first race of the season at Parliament Hill: hope you all enjoyed it!

Ladies race

Emily Hosker-Thornhill of St Mary's won in 15.18, 12 seconds ahead of Emily Moss (Holloway) in second and Melissa Courtney (Brunel) in third, the top three girls all came in under 16 minutes. St Mary's then closed out from 5th to 10th before Emily Bliss came in at 11th.

UL Colleges individual results: Ladies

First lady over the line from a UL College was Emily Moss of Royal Holloway in 2nd, the rest of the top five from UL college runners were: Isabel Brinsden (Holloway, 4th), Emily Bliss (UCL, 11th), Ella Fuller (UCL, 13th) and Shannon Colman (King's, 14th). The top Imperial runner was Sophie Kirk in 19th and they had Josie Bowler and Imogen Keane in 21st and 27th.

Ladies Team results

St Mary's take up the top two spots in the team competition but hot on their tails are King's in 3rd, only one point behind in 4th are UCL, so it looks like a tough fight to be the top UL college this season between the two traditionally strongest teams. Imperial College aren't far off the pace in 5th. St Mary's IIs, Brunel, King's IIs, Reading and UCL IIs close out the top ten.

Mens race

St Mary's dominated in the mens race: speedsters Daniel Woodgate, Paul Thompson and Josh Grace crossed the line together in a blanket finish in 26.58, thereafter St Mary's runners closed out all of the top 13 places in the mens race before Stuart Campbell of Brunel broke the pattern in 14th.

UL Colleges individual results: Mens

First man over the line from a UL college was James Pigot in 16th, the rest of the top five from UL college runners were Nathanael Tamaillon (LSE, 21st), Patrick Hough (UCL, 24th), Chris Lloyd (UCL, 33rd) and Rob Walker (Barts and the London, 38th). The top Imperial runner was James Ellis in 18th and they had Chris Thomas, Reuben Bogg and Sam O'Neill in 25th, 31st and 32nd.

Mens Team results

St Mary's, of course, dominate the top four spots. After the first round Imperial (5th), Brunel (6th) and UCL (7th) look to have a strong teams. After losing the legendary Jonny Laybourn to the real world UCL's James Pigot has taken up the baton with a fine first run. Barts and the London (11th) are in a distant second place from the UL colleges and will duke it out with LSE (12th), UCL IIs (13th) and King's (15th, having lost LCL stallwarts Mark Dellora, Tom Grimley and Hugh Salway over the summer) through the season.

Well run everyone, see you at Richmond Park on the 31st!
